Piedmont Community College offers a variety of short-term courses that can prepare students for work locally and regionally. Many of PCC’s classes offer national or international certifications, and graduates are automatically considered for interviews by local industries, including Polywood, GKN Driveline, and Spuntech Industries.
Upcoming short-term training includes:
Certified Production Technician
Certified Production Technician (CPT) training will be held from 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Feb. 10 - Mar. 31, on the Person County campus. Polywood, GKN Driveline, and Spuntech Industries, Inc., are guaranteeing interviews to students who successfully complete this program. This training offers industry-recognized credentials designed by the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council and extends certificates in safety awareness, manufacturing processes, quality practices, maintenance awareness and OSHA-10 safety certification.
Financial assistance is available after attending PCC’s free Employability Lab session and completing scholarship/financial aid forms from partnering agencies. Complete the paperwork prior to the CPT class at the College’s Business Development and Entrepreneurship Center at 105 N. Main St., Roxboro, or at the Caswell County Campus, 331 Piedmont Drive,Yanceyville.
Certified Automotive Tire Service
Certified Automotive Tire Service is a certification program that provides in-depth and comprehensive instruction on the recommended procedures for servicing modern automobiles and light trucks. The first class will be held 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Saturday Feb.15, on PCC’s Caswell County Campus. Scholarships are available through www.nctda.com
Certified ATS is designed for the professional passenger and light truck tire technician, allowing the subjects to range from the relationship between torque and clamping force to the TPMS relearn procedures on domestic and import vehicles.
Training also includes an exclusive module on Tire Conditions Analysis that uses images from TIA’s Passenger and Light Truck Tire Conditions Manual to educate technicians on the most likely reasons for common irregular treadwear patterns.
Firearm Maintenance
PCC will hold an inaugural Firearm Maintenance training course at 6 - 9 p.m.,Thursday, Feb. 20 - Apr. 9, on PCC’s Caswell County Campus. This course is designed to give students a general knowledge of how to properly maintain firearms,and is designed for the backyard target shooter or the weekend competition shooter. Topics include safety, proper cleaning methods and basic mechanics.
The Firearm Maintenance course can be a gateway into PCC’s Gunsmithing or Public Safety Administration programs, as well as Handgun Safety for Concealed Carry Permit course.
CDL Training
In collaboration with Trans-Tech, PCC offers a commercial driver’s license program. The partners polled the nation’s top trucking companies to ensure that PCC’s program is up-to-date and relevant. With smaller class sizes for one-on-one learning, students will be trained on an automatic transmission. The CDL Class A Truck Driver credential can lead to a high-demand, high-paying career in as little as four weeks.
The next two classes will be offered:
Person County: 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday – Friday, Feb. 10 – Mar. 6.
Caswell County: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday, Mar. 9 – Apr. 3.
Both schedules will have an alternate schedule the last two weeks of class to allow for night driving.
Electrical Contractors Recertification
The eight-hour Electrical Contractors Recertification course will be held 6 -10 p.m., Mar. 23-24, at PCC’s Person County Campus. This annual course is designed to provide electrical contractors with updated information on the latest changes in the National Electric Code and N.C. Electric Code requirements. A code book will be needed for class.
