WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Following suit of its neighbor to the south Carolina Beach, Wrightsville Beach has announced the town would allow short-term rentals once again. Following Covid-19, municipalities and counties across the region announced bans on short-term rentals with the hopes of limiting the number of visitors to the region, and hopefully slow the spread of the virus.
Other measures were also put in place like limiting access to parking lots and dictating what activities people could participate in on the beach itself.
The parking restrictions along with the short-term rental ban will be lifted (at least, in part) on Friday at 5 p.m., however, don’t expect to hit the beach and simply enjoy the sun.
“The Town of Wrightsville Beach will continue Beach Access for non-stationary exercise activities, will open 4 Parking Lots, and opens Short Term Rentals with Restrictions beginning May 8, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.,” according to a town press release.
So what are these new restrictions from the town regarding short-term rentals? Basically, the town is asking any homeowner or rental company to respect the ‘stay home’ orders from other states by not renting to people from those states until the respective orders have expired or are rescinded.
“Any and all individuals, entities, or establishments engaged in the provision of short-term rentals, vacation rentals, or other lodging accommodations or operations in exchange for consideration (collectively “Lodging”), as set forth below, in the Town of Wrightsville Beach are prohibited from making or accepting new reservations or bookings from or for individuals that reside in or traveled to (within the last fourteen (14) days states or countries that are under a “stay-at-home order” Issued by the governor or otherwise authorized government official of that state/country in connection with the effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus,” according to the release.
This means people from states like New York, New Jersey, Ohio, and more won’t legally be permitted to rent properties at Wrightsville Beach until their own state orders are lifted (you can view the full list of states with restrictions in the photo above).
It also means that North Carolina residents who traveled to those states would be prohibited from renting — although it’s not clear how that part of the order would be enforced.
