U.S. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized Tuesday for treatment of a gallbladder condition, the Supreme Court announced in a statement.
Ginsburg, 87, was diagnosed with a gallstone after finishing a session of oral arguments on Monday, the court said. The gallstone had blocked a duct, causing an infection.
On Tuesday, Ginsburg went in for treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, for non-surgical treatment and is “resting comfortably,” the court said.
Ginsburg plans to participate in oral arguments on Wednesday through teleconference from the hospital, the court said. She is expected to be in the hospital for another day or two.
Last fall, Ginsburg complete treatment on a cancerous tumor on her pancreas, which successfully left no evidence of the disease remaining.
