The Palm Springs City Council announced Friday that it has voted to align its temporary ban on short-term rentals with the state, which has yet to lift its existing order prohibiting the use of hotels and vacation rentals for leisure and vacation purposes.
Lodging owners are still held responsible for cancellations by the state's emergency order and are to continue providing lodging for victims of domestic violence and essential workers assisting with the coronavirus pandemic response.
The council also has rescinded city orders that previously closed private pools under the auspices of Homeowners Associations and apartment complexes.
Also, city leaders withdrew orders that previously closed trailhead parking lots and the Palm Springs Dog Park, which will be reopened for use on Saturday.
Users will, though, be required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing by remaining six feet apart.
These changes were announced Friday soon after Riverside County announced that it had received approval from the state for accelerated reopening,
This means restaurants can now open for dine-in service and venues such as shopping malls, strip malls and swap meets are allowed to reopen, according to county Board of Supervisors Chair V. Manuel Perez.
It's the second phase in the second stage of California's reopening plan.
Currently in Riverside County, there have been 6,464 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 290 deaths attributed to the virus.
As of Friday, there are 194 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, including 64 in intensive care. That's an increase of 11 hospitalizations since Thursday.
Additionally, officials said 4,180 people have recovered in the county, which is 164 more patients than Thursday.
