| A gin produced in the west of Ireland has scooped the top prize at the World Gin Awards in London. Dingle Original Gin was awarded Overall Best in World at the ceremony last night. More than 400 gins from around the world underwent blind taste testing by industry experts, before a final shortlist of 20 entries was announced. The winning gin is produced in The Dingle Whiskey Distillery outside the Co Kerry town of the same name. The distillery was launched in 2012. According to a statement, it has a unique flavour profile due to its "supply of locally foraged botanicals from its surrounding Co Kerry landscape that include rowanberry from the mountain ash trees, fuchsia, bog myrtle, hawthorn and heather." Dingle Original Gin was also named as number one in the London Dry Gin category. A company spokesperson said the win is an incredibly proud moment for the independent, family-owned company. "Winning this award for our Dingle Original Gin proves that we must be doing something right! "It's also fantastic to be representing Ireland as a world leader in producer of gin, aswell as shining a light on our gin's heritage and hometown of Dingle, Co Kerry," Elliot Hughes said.
