EuroMillions winner Kathleen Sheridan reveals ‘it’s hard to focus’ on massive €175million win as her mother- - The Irish Sun
EUROMILLIONS winner Kathleen Sheridan has revealed her family's celebrations have been tinged with sadness as it emerged one of their relatives is dying.
But despite the massive windfall, Kathleen admitted their week has been one of emotional turmoil against the background of her mother-in-law's serious illness.
She told the Irish Sun: "There will be no parties, no parties yet because my husband Charlie's mother is dying.
"So it's hard, it's hard to focus on that and focus on this."
The Sheridans live in the same Duleek, Co Meath estate as Charlie's beloved mam, who is now receiving palliative care.
Kathleen's daughter Emma said: "My mam is from the Naul originally. Here in Duleek is where my dad is from.
"My granny lives over there, she's very sick at the minute."
Five sisters and four brothers — all of whom live close to each other in villages around the Dublin/Meath border — will share in the mega pot after the family syndicate's six members decided to give their other siblings a cut.
The stunned relatives have left their lucky ticket with National Lottery officials for safekeeping until they make the trip into town next week to collect their cheque.
The EuroMillions history-makers held an hour-long meeting at the Bracken Court Hotel in Balbriggan on Thursday to discuss their financial bonanza.
They then sat down to a modestly priced buffet banquet in the hotel's dining area, where loaded Kathleen and Christine Rogers spoke exclusively to the Irish Sun.
Revealing how the group were still in "a daze", Kathleen declared: "We don't know what we are thinking, we have a lot to take in. It's hard to come to terms with it.
"The National Lottery have to tell us when the money is ready . . . it has to come in from all the countries."
Some of family still live in Naul, while others are based in the nearby villages of Duleek and Bellewstown in Co Meath.
But while house-hunting could now be on the agenda, Kathleen insisted she would stay close to her other relatives.
The down-to-earth mum said: "Ah Jesus, we won't be going far — we have it all."
Christine also told how they "would stick together", saying: "We're all in the local area. We are a very close family. We are a very grounded family, a very close family, we won't be moving anywhere far."
The close-knit clan, who lost two brothers last year, meet every Sunday and still take their holidays together.
Confirming another family break is on the horizon when their monster prize is banked, the lucky winners pledged they would look after everyone in their family — starting with the three siblings who were not in the syndicate.
Christine said: "It's great that it is all one family."
It's the second time that Lotto fortune has favoured the family after a sister of Charlie's trousered more than IR£600,000 years ago.
But they are now at the centre of a major frenzy after bagging Ireland's biggest jackpot.
The haul beats the €115million won by Limerick woman Dolores McNamara on the EuroMillions in 2005.
