Daughter of Irish €175m EuroMillions winner says she deserves her good fortune - Irish Mirror
The daughter of an Irishwoman who scooped the €175m EuroMillions jackpot with a family syndicate says her mother has had a "hard life" and deserves her good fortune.
Newly-minted millionaire Kathleen Sheridan who lives in Duleek in Co Meath said: "We're still in shock, we just can't believe it."
She will share her winnings with four sisters and two brothers who were part of the syndicate and another three siblings who are not members but will still receive a cut.
Each of the nine lucky siblings will pocket €19.4m each.
Kathleen's daughter Emma told The Irish Sun: "They're going to share it between everyone . . . that's what they're like, a real tight-knit family.
"They meet in their house every Sunday and it's only in the last few weeks they've started playing the EuroMillions, because two of their brothers died quite close together last year, so they do that every Sunday.
"It hasn't hit us . . . It's a major, big shock. It really hasn't sunk in yet. She (Kathleen) told us this morning and said not to say a word.
"They're up in the hotel at the minute and they're (the National Lottery) advising them."
And Emma added that her beloved mother deserves every penny of her winnings.
She joked: "I'll see what she's going to give me first! I'm actually delighted because she's (Kathleen) after having a very hard life. She deserves it. She's a great person."
The large family who scooped the record-breaking win are spread out across the Meath and north Dublin area, living in the Naul, Ashbourne, Bellewstown and Duleek.
Issuing a statement through Lotto HQ last night, a family spokesperson said that the news was still sinking in and they "don't want this win to dramatically change our lives."
" What is so exciting is that we will be able to share this money with children, grandchildren and extended family members."
Locals in Duleek are delighted for the family, with reports on RTE's Morning Ireland describing them as "decent hardworking people" and "it couldn't have happened to nicer people."
"Everyone delighted for them. They have a big family so no doubt this money will go a long way."
It's not yet clear if the family will go public with the win.
One local person said family members had been spotted early on yesterday but they were nowhere to be seen later.
A son of one syndicate came into the shop where the winning ticket was bought early on Wednesday morning but didn't let anything slip to workers at Reilly's Daybreak in The Naul, north Co Dublin.
A stunned Les said: "When the National Lottery rang me, my legs went to jelly and I had to go down the back and puke my ring up, that was my honest reaction . . . and then we jumped around the place."
