Street racing on Saturday left one driver in critical condition, the Solano County Highway Patrol said.
A 34-year-old from Fairfield was driving his 1998 Chevrolet Corvette over 120 mph around 4 p.m., on Highway 37, officials said. He was said to be racing another vehicle, possibly a Purple Dodge Charger, according to witnesses.
The Corvette then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete barrier near Highway 29, where it became engulfed with flames.
The driver was removed from the car and received “major life-threatening injuries.” The car’s passenger received minor injuries. Both occupants were wearing their seat belts, officials said.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
