Murrieta launches short-term vacation rental website - Press-Enterprise

Following Murrieta’s October decision to limit the presence of short-term rentals, the city has launched a new website tool that gives hosts quick access to resources and neighbors a way to hold them accountable.

The Murrieta City Council approved an updated ordinance that allows “hosted” rentals, or homes at which the homeowner is present during guests’ stay, in residential areas. It also limits rentals at which the owner is not present to larger estates and rural properties.

The city ordinance went into effect in late December after residents complained of parties and safety issues in their neighborhoods for more than a year. It establishes guidelines on parking, noise and the number of guests in the home, according to the city. It also limits the number of short-term rentals to 300.

Hosts interested in listing their homes can pay taxes, submit registration and renewal permits, up to 300 total. Additional applications will be put on a waiting list.

Permit applications, zoning maps, a “Good Neighbor” brochure for guests, and other information is on the website.

Neighbors can also submit tips and concerns online through the new portal, or through a 24-hour hotline: 951-210-7675. Hosts with repeated violations may face fines or lose their permit.
