The person, a resident at Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Sitka Long-Term Care, was “immediately isolated and transferred to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center," Sitka officials said in a statement.
“Plans were implemented to ensure the safety of the other residents at SLTC. An investigation is currently underway to identify the source of the virus," local officials said.
Health officials will isolate additional people if needed, according to the statement.
Though the case was announced by the City and Borough of Sitka on Saturday, it will not appear in the state of Alaska’s official case tally until Sunday.
The state reports positive cases of COVID-19 based on the previous day’s totals.
On Saturday, the state had reported no new cases of COVID-19 among test results reported the previous day, and no new deaths or hospitalizations.
