MDH released the names of 32 facilities with at least one case of the new coronavirus. At least two facilities named are in Olmsted County: Rochester East Health Services and the Rochester Rehabilitation and Living Center.
Thirty-one facilities have at least one case of COVID-19, seven with at least two cases and nine with more than two cases.
Kris Ehresmann, director of MDH's Infectious Disease Epidemiology, said just because a facility has COVID-19 detected, it's not in crisis because the state's standard of an outbreak inside a congregate facility is narrow.
The MDH classifies an outbreak in congregate care settings if at least one case in a resident, healthcare worker or contractor. MDH also makes the classification two days prior to a person showing symptoms of COVID-19.
"Family members should certainly reach out to these facilities and check-in with them, but I think it's important that people not make assumptions because a name of the facility is on that list. What that means is that we're working with these facilities to make sure that they're able to mitigate these potential exposures in the best way possible," Ehresmann said.
Facilities with at least 10 residents are listed online. At least 13 of 24 deaths related to the novel coronavirus were people who lived in congregate care.
