Memphis, Tenn. — A man is in critical condition after being rescued from a house fire in South Memphis, according to the Memphis Fire Department.

MFD said they arrived at the 600 block of Eads Avenue on Dec. 3 around 10:09 P.M. and saw heavy flames from the one-story wood-frame house.

Fire Crews went inside through the front door and rescued a man who was lying at the entrance, said MFD.

The man was treated on the scene and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

MFD said he suffered 2nd and 3rd-degree burns to 80 percent of his body.

The total damage is estimated at $18,800.00 structure and $20,000.00 contents, according to a release.

The cause of the fire was electrical wiring that malfunctioned in the dining room wall.

There were no firefighters injured, said MFD.

It has not been determined if the residence had a working smoke alarm, MFD said.

The Memphis Fire Department recommends that all citizens maintain a working smoke alarm in their homes.
