JACKSON, MI -- A man is in critical condition after a suspected accidental gunshot to the head, police said.
At about 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, officers from the Jackson Police Department were dispatched to the 1000 block of Cooper Street in Jackson for the report of someone suffering from a gunshot.
On scene, officers found a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
The victim had been driving on Cooper Street after picking up a young woman, who was the only other known passenger of the vehicle, police said.
While driving, the man took out a gun and began “messing with it,” the woman later told police. The woman asked the man to stop, police said.
According to the female witness, the man told her the gun was not loaded, and aimed it at his own head and pulled the trigger, causing the gun to go off, police said.
The investigation of this incident is still ongoing, police said.
