ANTRIM COUNTY, MI – The suspect in a shooting at a Torch Lake boat launch earlier this week is charged with assault with intent to murder while the victim is in stable condition with life-threatening injuries, WPBN/WGTU reports.
Lauren Hunter, 36, of St. Louis, Mo., was arraigned Thursday morning, the report said. If convicted of assault with intent to murder, she could face life in prison. Hunter is also charged with felony firearm. Her bond was set at $250,000 and if she posts it, she’ll be allowed to return home to Missouri; she is currently lodged in the Antrim County Jail.
Hunter’s attorney told WPBN/WGTU that the shooting was self-defense.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday when a 20-year-old Grand Rapids woman and her boyfriend were loading up their paddle board at a boat launch on the southern end of the lake, MLive previously reported. At the same time, Hunter was backing up her vehicle to load up her family’s boat. An argument ensued over the use of the boat launch. When the victim and her boyfriend approached, Hunter allegedly pulled a small handgun and shot the victim once; the bullet went through her arm and chest before exiting.
