Michigan State Police say a 25-year-old Alpena man is in critical condition following a single car crash on Wednesday.
Troopers say Wednesday around 9:30 p.m., they were called to a single car crash on Long Rapids Road between Haken and Cathro Roads in Maple Ridge Township.
They say a 1974 Corvette driven by the 25-year-old was traveling Northwest on Long Lake Road, when he crossed the center line and drove off of the South side of the road, hitting several trees before stopping in a ditch.
Troopers say the man was found unconscious and unresponsive in the car. EMS and fire crews arrived on the scene shortly thereafter, extracted the man from the car and gave first aid.
The man was taken to a local Alpena hospital and was later flown to a Midland hospital for treatment. Troopers say he has since been taken to a hospital in Royal Oak and is in critical condition.
Troopers say their preliminary investigation shows no sign of intoxicants, but speed is believed to be a factor in the crash and the 25-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt.
