President Rosenberg: 'Please consider getting vaccinated before the beginning of fall term' - FIU News

istilahni.blogspot.com

Dear members of the university community,

We are only three weeks away from the start of the fall semester – just enough time to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Cases and hospitalizations have increased in our community once again, and the sick are predominantly young and many are unvaccinated.

While evidence shows that people who are vaccinated can get COVID-19, their symptoms are usually milder. If you are unvaccinated, you are assuming a significant risk to your health.

Following the guidance of Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Board of Governors, this fall, classes will be back on campus with no remote option and no physical distancing in our classrooms. There are no plans to modify the operations of the university to accommodate individuals who choose not to get vaccinated.

If you have not taken the vaccine yet, I urge you to do so this week so that all of us can go into Fall 2021 protected against this serious disease. If you have friends who are not vaccinated, please urge them to get the shot.

We are fortunate that vaccines are free and widely available in our community and on our campus. We are relocating the vaccine site to the Graham Center Piano Lounge at MMC to make it easier and more convenient to get vaccinated.

On-campus appointments:  First doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be available on Wednesday, Aug. 4. Everyone must bring a photo ID or birth certificate. Vaccine appointments are now open and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis to members of the university community and qualifying family members. Please register for an appointment as soon as possible using your FIU credentials. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 4. Please note that the Pfizer vaccine requires a second shot three weeks after the first shot.

At FIU, we strive to help our Panther family stay safe and healthy. Please remember that vaccinated or not, we must all continue to observe COVID-19 mitigation guidelines. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending that everyone – vaccinated or not – wear face coverings indoors.

Before arriving on campus each day, every member of the university community must complete the P3 app questionnaire.

A fully vaccinated university community is the ultimate expression of Panther Protecting Panthers and accelerates our path to effective learning with minimal interruptions from quarantining or hospitalization.

Do not delay getting the vaccine. Please take advantage of the three weeks before the beginning of the fall semester. Together, we can ensure everyone’s well-being on campus.

Sincerely,
