A teen was in critical condition Saturday after he accidentally shot himself while mishandling a gun in West Dallas, police said.

Dallas police were dispatched to reports of a shooting about 3:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of McBroom Street, near Hampton Road and Singleton Boulevard, where they found the boy.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital. Police didn’t release his age or identity.

The investigation was ongoing.
