Five people were killed and one person is in critically condition following a head-on crash on the Montauk Highway late Saturday, officials say.
The accident happened around 11 p.m. in Quogue.
They say a Nissan Maxima was heading west on Montauk Highway when it left its lane and crashed head-on with a Toyota Prius.
Witnesses say more than 100 first responders rushed to the scene and used the jaws of life to extricate the victims.
Four people were pronounced dead at the scene and a fifth died a short time later at Stony Brook Southhampton Hospital.
Another person was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center and remains in critical condition.
Officials say speeding contributed to the crash.
The names of the victims have not been released.
An investigation is ongoing.
