FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - Authorities with the Fort Wayne Police Department said a single-vehicle crash left a four-year-old boy with life-threatening injuries.
Officials said officers responded to 4th Street, in front of Lawton Park, on reports of a vehicle accident on Saturday at 6:36 p.m.
Based on a preliminary investigation, a van was traveling eastbound on 4th Street, just in front of the entrance to Lawton Park, officials said. A 4-year-old boy attempted to cross the street and ran into the path of the van, authorities added.
The van was unable to stop in time, police said, and struck the boy.
Officials confirmed the boy suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment,
Leaders with the Fort Wayne Police Department said they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash based on their investigation.
The investigation is still underway.
