JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One man is in critical condition after crashing into a concrete utility pole early Sunday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

A dark-colored Chevy was traveling south on Roosevelt Boulevard when the car left the road and hit a concrete utility pole near Adrian Court in Avondale.

When JSO responded, the driver, who was the only occupant in the car was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Once he was at the hospital, his condition was upgraded to critical.

Officers said it was unknown what caused the car to leave the road. However, evidence indicated that the driver did not use his brakes. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor.

JSO wants to send a public service announcement to drivers about speeding, distracted driving, and the need to pay attention to one’s surroundings.
