Syracuse, N.Y -- Five people were shot, one critically, in what appear to be three unrelated shootings in Syracuse overnight from Sunday into Monday, police said.
Officers responded first to Upstate University Hospital, where a 28-year-old woman showed up with a gunshot wound to her arm, said Syracuse police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Malinowski. The woman had arrived at the hospital at about 11:30 p.m. in a private vehicle, and police are unsure where that shooting occurred. The woman is expected to survive.
The most serious of the three shootings happened next, at about 1:14 a.m. during some kind of party or gathering in the city’s Elmwood neighborhood. When officers arrived in the 300 block of Craddock Street, they found three people with gunshot wounds, Malinowski said. In that incident, a 20-year-old man was shot in the head, a 17-year-old was shot in the back and a 15-year-old was shot in the back.
All three were transported to area hospitals, Malinowski said. The two teens who were shot in the back are expected to survive, but the 20-year-old was listed in critical condition.
Just over an hour later, at about 2:27 a.m., officers again responded to a call from Upstate that someone had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound, Malinowski said. This time, a 56-year-old man had come in with a graze wound to his arm. He is expected to survive.
Police are unsure where that shooting may have happened, Malinowski said.
There was no indication that any of the three shooting incidents were related, he said.
In each case, the incidents are still under investigation. Police ask that anyone with information call the department at 315-442-5222.
