WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A man and woman are in “extremely critical condition” following a crash at the intersection of 5400 South and Mountain View Corridor.

The incident happened just before 6 p.m. Sunday.

A compact car was traveling westbound on 5400 South when officials believe it ran a red light. The vehicle was then struck on the passenger side by a pickup truck heading southbound on Mountain View Corridor.

West Valley Police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said the two occupants in the compact car — a 19/20-year-old male and a 21-year-old female — were transported to the hospital in “extremely critical condition.”

The three passengers in the pickup truck were not injured.

Officials said the intersection has been closed in the southbound, eastbound and westbound directions, but the northbound lanes remain open.

The identities of the two young adults have not been released.
