A New Jersey State Police recruit is in critical condition after losing consciousness during a training Wednesday.

The 27-year-old recruit was boxing with a classmate at the New Jersey State Police Academy in Sea Girt Borough when the incident took place, State Police wrote on its Facebook page.

Staff at the Police Academy intervened, stopping the exercise and delivering first aid to the recruit. After calling for emergency medical service, he was brought to a local area hospital.

He is currently in critical condition, according to NJSP.

The recruit’s family was notified and came to the hospital where they met with State Police and medical staff.

As a result, active countermeasures/boxing activities are temporarily suspended until the incident is reviewed.

Police did not provide names for the recruit or the other classmate involved in the incident.
