— A deputy with the Nash County Sheriff's Office was critically injured in a crash on Thursday night.

During an update on Friday, Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone said Jared Allison, 26, is in "very critical condition" at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Nash County Sheriff's deputy Jared Allison was critically injured in a crash on Thursday night.

According to Stone, Allison was attempting to stop a speeding motorcycle on U.S. Highway 301 his patrol SUV was struck by a Nissan Maxima trying to cross the highway from May Drive.

Allison's SUV hit the median and overturned, and he was ejected from the passenger side window.

Jeffrey Daniels witnessed the crash and said Allison's vehicle flipped multiple times.

"He immediately went air-bound, he went into the air and the SUV flipped probably 10 to 20 times," Daniels said. "It flipped about 5 to 10 times in the air and then it hit the ground a few more times. He hit it very, very hard."

On Friday, Stone said Allison is unresponsive. His wife and 9-year-old son are in Greenville hoping he will recover.

No charges have been filed in the crash, which Stone said remains under investigation.

"I went to the scene last night, and as much carnage and trauma that was there, it takes time," he said.

Stone described Allison as a "phenomenal, easy-going officer" and said he has been with the Nash County Sheriff's Office for more than two years. Allison was recently honored for saving an abused pet, Stone said.

"What a God-fearing fine man he is," Stone said. "It is heartbreaking to stand up here today. This man goes out on Thanksgiving Day to save the lives of others, and now we're praying for him."

Stone praised the EMS responders who were at the scene in less than eight minutes.

Allison's aunt has set up a GoFundMe for his medical recovery fund, and his family is requesting prayers.

According to the GoFundMe page, he was rushed to a trauma hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to reduce brain swelling, and he's currently in ICU in critical condition.

"In addition to the brain trauma and massive head injuries, Jared has suffered extensive blood loss, resulting in multiple transfusions needed. He has fractured his left femur and his pelvis. Jared will need additional surgeries for his injuries once he is stable enough to go back into the operating room," wrote his aunt.

The driver and the passenger in the Maxima went to the emergency department at Nash General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Stone on Friday said they are "up and walking" and will recover.

The Nash County Sheriff's Office asked for prayers for all involved.
