A man was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday night after getting shot while driving down a San Antonio highway, police said.

San Antonio police were called to the U.S. 281, near the Quarry, after multiple callers reported hearing shots between McCullough Avenue and Nakoma Drive just before midnight.

When police arrived, they found a driver who had pulled over on 281, just before the Nakoma Drive exit, suffering from multiple gun shot wounds.

The victim said he has been shot while driving down the highway and pulled over. The vehicle had at least 20 bullet holes, police said.

The man was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

Police are still searching for a suspect.
