Andrew J. Reardon, age 32, of Ogden has been cited for failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign, turning improperly and driving while ability impaired by drugs. Police say he ran the stop-sign on Stony Point Road while turning left onto Buffalo Road. 32-year old Julia Resto was traveling on Buffalo Road at the time and was unable to stop before crashing into Reardon’s vehicle.
Julia Resto’s sister tells News10NBC that Resto was on her way back from dropping a friend’s car off for service at the time of the crash.
“Julia's airbags and side airbags went off, and she was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital,” Amy Rothfuss said.
Resto is a wife and mother of three from Ogden, she had critical injuries as did the baby girl that she was 7 months pregnant with.
“They did an emergency c-section and delivered my niece, Azaria Rose and she had a heartbeat and she lived for a very short time but the doctors were unable to save her and she died a short while later,” Rothfuss said through tears.
Resto has a number of spinal fractures along with several other internal injuries but is expected to survive. The Ogden Police Chief told News10NBC the investigation into the crash is still ongoing and Reardon is expected to face additional charges.
Resto’s family is heartbroken.
“Was it worth the life that you ruined, the baby that died, the pain that you caused… addiction is a disease but driving is a choice,” Rothfuss said.
Reardon was cited and released at the direction of Ogden Court. He is scheduled to appear back in Ogden Court on Nov. 23 at 5 p.m.
Resto’s family has set-up a GoFundMe account to raise money for her medical and childcare needs, to donate, click here.
