A car that ran a right light slammed into two female pedestrians, leaving one dead and another in grave condition Friday evening in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, police said.
It happened about 5:20 p.m. when a 25-year-old man behind the wheel of a car traveling south on Western Avenue disregarded a red light at Pratt Boulevard and plowed into the passenger side of northbound car trying to turn onto westbound Pratt, according to a police media notification.
A 22-year-old woman driving the northbound car came to rest after hitting a pole in the 2300 block of West Pratt but the other car kept going south, hitting two female pedestrians on a sidewalk, police said.
One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other pedestrian was taken to Amita St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in grave condition, police said.
Their identities were not immediately known.
The 25-year-old motorist was also taken to St. Francis with minor injuries and was listed in fair condition while the 22-year-old woman declined medical attention.
No tickets have been written and no charges have been filed.
Major accidents are investigating.
