For the third time in just over a year, there will be another new face in the Circuit Court Judge seat for Branch 5.
Circuit Court Judge Paul Czisny announced Monday he will not be a candidate for election in Spring 2022.
In a press release sent to KFIZ News, Czisny said, “While I have thoroughly enjoyed my service as a circuit court judge in Fond du Lac County, my wife and I are committed to retiring in June, 2024, when I reach age 65. Should I run and be elected to a six year term next spring, I would be asking the people of this county to grant me a term in office that I frankly would have no intention of serving out. Given that I would likely have opposition in this election, I would not only be committing my own financial resources and time to an effort to secure less than one-third of a six year tenure, friends and supporters would also provide their resources and assistance to that end when I am fully aware that I do not plan to complete that time in office. I feel that running a campaign under those circumstances would be disingenuous and unfair to those intending to support me.”
Czisny was appointed Circuit Court Judge back in March of 2021 to fill the seat that became open when Judge Robert Wirtz announced he was retiring May 2, 2021.
Judge Czisny said he will complete his term July 21, 2022, and in the press release, said he believed his perspective as an attorney who represented over 8,000 people during his three decades of practicing law “has been an important addition to the Fond du Lac County Court System.”
Czisny didn’t say what his plans are once his term expires, but did say ” at this critical time, I feel compelled to engage in public affairs in a manner which is constrained by this office.”
