
A Michigan State Police trooper is in critical condition in a Grand Rapids hospital after a crash Friday night near Saranac, police said in a news release.
The trooper was driving westbound on Grand River Avenue in Boston Township when his vehicle was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by a 28-year-old Utah woman, according to the release.
The trooper, whose name was not released, was extricated from his patrol vehicle and flown by AeroMed medical helicopter to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The trooper is assigned to the Lakeview Post.
State Police said in the release the woman, who was the lone occupant in her vehicle, was taken by ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital and is also in critical condition.
State Police said their investigation is ongoing.
