A 34-year-old motorcycle rider was left in critical condition Sunday evening after he collided with another vehicle in downtown Bridgeport.

Police said the city man was riding his 2007 Yamaha YZFR1 sport bike south on Madison Avenue around 7:16 p.m. when he collided with a 2005 Toyota RAV4 SUV turning left from the east lane of Center Street Extension.

The force of the crash caused “the operator of the motorcycle to be ejected and land in the northbound lane of Madison Avenue,” Bridgeport police said.

The rider, whose name is not being released until police have notified his family, was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

Police identified the driver of the SUV as a 51-year-old Bridgeport man, who they said “was not injured and is cooperating with police.”

A 65-year-old passenger in the SUV was also uninjured, police said.

The Bridgeport Police Department’s accident reconstruction team is conducting the investigation into the crash. Police said they cleared the scene of the accident around 11 p.m. Sunday night.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Bridgeport Police Department's Traffic Division (Officer Keith Ruffin) at 203-576-7640.
