STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Deteriorating road bridges pose a serious risk to public safety, as evident by the collapse of a Pittsburgh bridge in late January that injured 10 people.
The collapsed Pittsburgh bridge had received a “poor” rating in the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) National Bridge Inventory for 2021, indicating that at least one of the bridge’s four main components had received a poor grade during its most recent inspection.
