Stamford Police / ContributedSTAMFORD — A 71-year-old Stamford man is in grave condition after police responded to a reported fight Wednesday, according to Stamford police.
Around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Stamford police received calls about a fight on Cold Spring Road near the Long Ridge Road intersection.
When police arrived, they saw two cars in the road and a 71-year-old Stamford man on the ground unconscious.
Patrol officers helped the victim before he was taken to Stamford Hospital, where police said he was in “grave condition” Wednesday afternoon.
After interviewing numerous witnesses at the scene, police arrested Emmanuel Matias, 25, of Yonkers, N.Y. Matias was charged with second-degree assault of an elderly person.
He is being held on $250,000 bond, police said.
Officials closed off Cold Spring Road to all traffic between Long Ridge Road and Randall Avenue around 1 p.m. As of 5 p.m., the area had reopened.
