Curtis Samuel has been placed on the short-term injured reserve list, Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera announced Friday. The wide receiver aggravated a groin injury that forced him to miss the entirety of minicamp and all but one day of training camp.
Samuel could return to the active roster after the first three weeks of the season.
Rivera told reporters he is “very comfortable” this is not a major setback for Samuel. When asked about possible surgery, Rivera said “don't even bring that up ... don't even start something that's not there."
Samuel signed a three-year, $34.5 million deal with Washington this offseason. Along with rising star receiver Terry McLaurin, he was set to be a focal point of the offense for new quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
