MILLBRAE – A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after he used his car to strike and run over an unhoused woman who had been harassing him at his nearby job at a grocery store, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said a deputy doing a business check around 12:21 a.m. Monday found a woman with major injuries lying down in a Starbucks parking lot on 513 Broadway. Authorities said she showed signs of being hit by a car and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to undergo surgery, but she was in grave condition as of Tuesday.

Investigators found surveillance footage showing a gray BMW SUV hitting the woman at a high speed and “running her over several more times,” officials said.

A deputy found a car with damage matching the description of the vehicle in the video on Henry Place. Investigators contacted a man who was at the residence where the car was parked, interviewed and arrested him, authorities said.

Detectives said they determined the man was the person who hit the woman with the car and that it was “on-purpose” and “premeditated.” The man worked at a Safeway across the street from where the woman was found and she had “harassed him previously while he was working there,” said Lt. Eammon Allen.

The 23-year-old man was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility, officials said.
