UPDATED Wednesday, September 22 at 5 p.m. :

The Dayton Police Department just wrapped up a briefing on an incident Tuesday evening that ended with an officer shot and a suspect in critical condition.

The police played audio from police radios followed by body-cam footage from officer Thadeau Holloway, as he tried to detain 39-year-old AntWyane Deon Lowe outside an apartment complex on Ingram Street in Dayton.

Dayton Police Interim Chief Matt Carper speaks at a podium in front of a monitor showing Antwyane Deon Lowe's information at a press briefing Wednesday afternoon. Last night, DPD officer Thadeau Holloway and Lowe were shot in an exchange of gunfire after responding to a counterfeit bill at a Dollar General Store.

Dayton Police Interim Chief Matt Carper gives quick details about suspect Antwayne Deon Lowe, who exchanged gunfire with DPD officer Thadeau Holloway Tuesday evening. Holloway was responding to a report of someone passing a counterfeit bill at a Dollar General store.

The footage shows Lowe punching officer Holloway, then attempting to flee. Lowe was tased by the officer, and as he was on the ground he fired a gun, hitting the officer on the left side of his head. Holloway then fired five rounds, striking Lowe multiple times, until he hit the ground.

Footage shows Holloway bleeding from his wound, while nearby residents are heard saying “[Lowe] is still breathing.” A fellow police officer transported Holloway to Miami Valley Hospital. Dayton Fire Department personnel and medics arrived soon after and transferred Lowe to Miami Valley Hospital as well.

Lowe’s condition has been upgraded from critical to serious, but stable. Officer Holloway’s condition was listed as stable and non-serious.

Interim Police Chief Matt Carper commended Officer Holloway’s quick thinking and professionalism in a dangerous situation.

“Something that I would like to add that is remarkable, is the concern that he showed not just for his own well-being, but for the well-being of the suspect and those around him, the responding officers and the citizens in the area,” Carper said.

Carper hopes Holloway will be released from the hospital soon. Lowe is facing five criminal charges, including two counts of felonious assault on a police officer. Lowe has a prior charge for assaulting a police officer in 2013.

On Tuesday evening, a Dayton police officer and a man shot each other in an exchange of gunfire in West Dayton.

The officer was reported to be in stable condition at Miami Valley Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The suspect, however, remains in critical condition.

Dayton police say the altercation started after officers responded to a report of someone trying to pass a counterfeit bill at the Dollar General on Gettysburg Avenue at around 7 p.m.

While attempting to stop a man at the scene, police say the man struck an officer, who then tased him in response.

Police say the man then fell to the ground, pulled out a gun and shot at the officer, hitting him on the side of the head. The officer returned fire, striking the man multiple times.

The Violent Crimes Bureau is investigating this incident. The Dayton Police Department will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
