A woman died and two children, including an infant, were critically injured during a traffic collision involving a stolen vehicle early Sunday, according to Chicago police.
Officers were called to the 3900 block of South State Street in the Robert Taylor Homes neighborhood about 1:15 a.m. to investigate a two-vehicle crash, according to a media notification from police.
Two males had been traveling south on State in a burgundy Chevrolet Malibu — which had earlier been reported stolen — when the driver crashed the car into a black sedan that had been headed east on Pershing Road, police said. The two occupants of the Malibu took off running.
There had been four people in the black sedan, police said. A woman, 32, died at the crash site, officials said. She had not been identified as of Sunday morning, according to the medical examiner’s office.
A “male infant,” whose exact age was not released, was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, as was a 12-year-old boy, who had been ejected from the sedan during the crash, police said. He also was in critical condition at Comer Children’s Hospital.
A 41-year-old man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said, but his condition and the extent of his injuries were not immediately known, according to investigators.
The crash remains under investigation and no arrests have been made. Check back for updates.
