OAKLAND — A 52-year-old woman remained in critical condition Tuesday after being hit by a car in East Oakland that kept on going, police said.

The crash happened around 10:16 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Church Street and Bancroft Avenue near the Eastmont mall, police said. Police are looking for the vehicle and any of its occupants.

Police said a black Volkswagen was driving west on Bancroft when it made a U-turn on Church Street and hit the woman, who was walking north across Bancroft near the intersection. The woman suffered major external and internal injuries and was taken to a hospital after being treated by paramedics, authorities said.

She does not live in Oakland, police said.

Police did not release a description of the person driving the Volkswagen.

Police traffic investigators said they’ll need to investigate further if they’re to determine whether drugs or alcohol were factors in what happened.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
