The Honey Grove officer who was shot in the foot during a 10-hour standoff Tuesday night into Wednesday morning is listed in stable condition. The alleged shooter was found dead inside a home in the 800 block of Hickory Street.
According to Sgt. Mark Tackett with the Texas Department of Public Safety, officers were called to the home for a reported domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found a man who was armed with an assault rifle.
Soon, shots were fired.

Officials said a Honey Grove police officer was shot in the foot and a constable pulled the officer to safety during the gunfire. The officer was then flown to the hospital for treatment.
It was at this time that the neighboring homes within a two-block radius were evacuated and blocked off.
After more than 10 hours, law enforcement officials went inside the home and found the man with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“There is no longer a danger to the community related to this incident,” Tackett said.
Tackett said no names are being released at this time. Support came from units with the Paris Police Department, Lamar and Fannin County Sheriff’s Offices, Texas DPS and the Texas Rangers.
“At the request of the Honey Grove Police Department, the Texas Rangers have been asked to investigate the incident,” Tackett added. “The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is currently available.”
