TITTABAWASSEE TWP, MI — A two-vehicle crash near Freeland has left two people hospitalized in critical condition.
The crash occurred just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, at the intersection of M-47 and Old Midland Road in Tittabawassee Township. Responding police determined a Toyota Prius heading north on M-47 failed to stop at a stop sign then collided with a southbound Jeep, said Tittabawassee Township Police Chief David Simon.
The Jeep struck the Toyota on the latter’s passenger side, Simon said.
The Prius was driven by a 44-year-old Midland resident and contained a 13-year-old passenger. The driver was taken to a Saginaw hospital with critical injuries.
The teenage passenger was airlifted to a Flint hospital, also with critical injuries.
Both remained in critical condition as of noon on Wednesday, June 16, Simon said.
The Jeep was driven by a 23-year-old Bay City woman. She was evaluated at the scene by Mobile Medical Response, then taken via personal vehicle to a Midland hospital for additional treatment.
The Jeep’s driver was treated, observed, and released from the hospital later on Tuesday, Simon said.
Tittabawassee Township officers were assisted at the scene by the Tittabawassee Township Fire Department, the MBS Fire Department, the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office’s Crash Reconstruction and Reserve units, MMR, the Michigan Department of Transportation, Covenant LifeNet, and the Michigan State Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit.
There is no indication drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, Simon said.
