SAN ANTONIO – A man was taken to an area hospital following a rollover crash on Interstate 10 early Thursday morning, San Antonio police said.

The crash occurred around 2:15 a.m. in the 10600 block of I-10 West near Ramsgate Street, not far from Vance Jackson Road on the city’s Northwest Side.

According to police, the driver of a 2016 Honda Civic was traveling south on the access road of I-10 at a high rate of speed when she entered a turn-around lane. She realized she was in the wrong lane, tried to get back into the main lanes and overcorrected, police said.

The Civic struck a curb and went airborne before striking a retaining wall and rolling over. No other cars were involved in the crash.

A front-seat passenger, 27, was taken to University Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Civic, also 27, was evaluated for signs of impairment and was not found to be intoxicated, police said.

Three lanes of the highway had to be shut down while emergency crews worked at the scene.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department, and EMS all answered the call.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, police said.
