McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage said Tuesday he'll call it quits after his second term is over at the end of next year. He was last elected in 2018.
So far, Sandage has spent 6 1/2 years as sheriff and 30 years in McLean County law enforcement. In a news release, Sandage thanked a variety of people, including his family, colleagues and voters. He called the sheriff's department one of the best law enforcement agencies in the state.
Sandage said the decision was not an easy one, and there are still many challenges ahead for the department, adding he will face them with dedication and vigor until his term ends.
Sandage said he's proud of the progress the department has made during his tenure, and that was only possible with dedicated colleagues.
He also said he will look for other ways to serve on the local level.
