SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – An Indiana State Police trooper is in serious condition following a crash in Shelby County Friday morning.
According to the Indiana State Police, a Master Trooper Jeremy Basso was assisting a construction crew on I-74 around 2:45 a.m. when the Basso’s vehicle was struck.
Police said the trooper is in serious condition but was alert and conscious during transportation to the hospital.
The driver of the SUV, 21-year-old Mason Durrett, of Indianapolis, is suspected of operating while intoxicated, according to ISP.
Durrett was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He has been arrested for a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily harm.
Police said Basso’s vehicle was parked in a closed lane and clearly marked with emergency lights prior to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
