PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police say a 6-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was shot in the chest in Homewood.

Police responded to the 7100 block of Frankstown Avenue Thursday evening.
READ MORE: Pittsburgh Animal Care And Control Employee Facing Charges For Allegedly Severely Injuring DogOfficers got a ShotSpotter alert for Lawndale Street and then got a call for a child shot on Frankstown Avenue and North Homewood Avenue.
Police arrived to find a child in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was in an SUV with a man who was trying to get help, law enforcement said.
“When officers arrived, they found a juvenile female with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers were able to get that victim out of the vehicle and render aid until medics arrived,” said Public Safety spokesperson Maurice Matthews.
She was taken to Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
Investigators are not sure where the shooting happened. There are no suspect descriptions at this time.
