Syracuse, N.Y. -- When a man looked out the window of his house, he saw a hand poke out the passenger window of a silver SUV holding a gun.
The person in the SUV fired nearly 10 shots at car parked at the intersection of Green and Howard streets, said the witness, Luke, who asked that his last night not be used because he fears possible retaliation.
The SUV pulled through intersection, from the 100 block of Green Street to the 200 block, Luke said. It stopped next to another car, this one a red sedan, parked at the curb with its right turn signal flashing. The passenger of the SUV shot toward the car, Luke said.
“The detective told me it was a DoorDash delivery guy,” Luke said of the person who had been shot.
The delivery driver was rushed to the hospital, Luke said.
Syracuse police reported in a news release that a 29-year-old Syracuse man is in “serious” condition after being shot in the mid-section in the 200 block of Green Street. The shooting was reported at about 10:14 p.m. on Friday, Onondaga County 911 dispatch logs show.
Just after the shooting, Luke said he could hear someone banging on a door across the street. He came out to his porch and saw a man whose red car had been parked near the curb banging on the front door of 200 Green Street.
Luke initially thought the man was banging on the door because he was afraid of the shots that had been fired. Detectives later told Luke the man had been shot, he said.
Near the intersection, evidence markers lined the road and grass after the shooting. At least 12 yellow markers appeared to mark the shell casings and possibly other evidence.
Police tape blocked off the entire intersection of Green and Howard streets. Officers had even taped off the steps leading to the front door of 200 Green St., where Luke said he saw the man run.
An officer leaned into the open front driver’s side door of the red sedan. Officers moved around the scene, taking photos and collecting evidence. The red car’s right turn signal continued to blink.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story included Luke’s last name. He asked that his last name be removed for fear of retaliation.
