West Seneca Street has reopened to through traffic after several hours, but police are still investigating a rollover crash that occurred at 1:19am. The driver, who has been identified as a 19-year-old from Trumansburg, was trapped in the vehicle for about 25 minutes, and “is listed in serious but stable condition” at a regional trauma center.
According to the Ithaca Fire Department, emergency responders who arrived at the scene shortly after the crash “found a man trapped in a convertible that had crashed into a work trailer near Plain Street and rolled over onto its roof.” The home security video below is courtesy of David Kornreich, a nearby homeowner.
Police quickly shut down the road, resulting in an alert about an hour later from Tompkins County’s Swift911 system that Seneca Street would be closed until about 10am.
IFD says firefighters worked for about 25 minutes “to raise the vehicle and free the man from the car.” He was taken to Upstate Medical Center by Bangs Ambulance for treatment of head and neck injuries. Police say two parked vehicles were struck and sustained damage.
IPD asks anyone who may have been in the area or who may have video of or information about the incident to call police dispatch at 607-272-3245, the administration line at 607-272-9973, the police tipline at 607-330-0000, or send e-mail to policeinfo@cityofithaca.org or use the anonymous online tip form.
