KALAMAZOO, MI — A 19-year-old Kalamazoo resident is in critical condition following a crash Monday night in the area of South Westnedge Avenue and Whites Road.
Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the scene at 9:07 p.m., Sept. 21, on the report of a crash involving a motorcycle and car, according to a news release from the department.
Upon arrival, officers found the 19-year-old — who had been operating the motorcycle — to be suffering from severe injuries, according to the release. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is listed in critical condition.
One of the five occupants of the vehicle was suffering from minor injuries, the release states. The person was treated on scene and released, the release states.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor of the crash, but speed does appear to be a factor per witnesses, police said in the release. The crash remains under investigation.
