CALHOUN COUNTY, MI — Two men were injured, one of whom is in critical condition, after a crash in Springfield Saturday morning.
Calhoun County deputies were sent to a crash at about 10:45 a.m. Saturday on West Dickman Road near North 32nd Street, according to a news release from the county sheriff’s office. Deputies found a male pedestrian in the road and a vehicle that had left the road and struck a tree.
A preliminary investigation appears to show a 37-year-old construction worker from the Coloma area had just exited a parked construction vehicle in the westbound lanes of a construction zone, according to the release.
While walking toward the rear of the vehicle, an eastbound truck crossed the median and struck both the man and his vehicle.
The truck, which was driven by a 23-year-old man from Emmett Township, continued through a nearby field and struck a tree, where it came to rest, police said.
The Coloma man was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo in critical condition. The Emmett Township man was taken to Bronson — Battle Creek. Police did not describe his condition in the release.
Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office at 269-781-0880.
