Ohio State defensive lineman Haskell Garrett was taken to a hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to his face in the university district early Sunday morning, authorities said.
He was taken to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in stable condition.
Columbus police responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of Chittenden Avenue about 12:30 a.m.
Garrett, 22, was found in an apartment with a gunshot wound through both cheeks, police said. Blood was seen in the street and led to the apartment.
Information concerning a possible suspect, or further details surrounding the incident, was not included in a media release.
Garrett is a senior for the Buckeyes and was projected to be a starting defensive tackle this fall before the season was canceled by the Big Ten Conference due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Players remain enrolled in fall semester classes, which began last week, and are living near campus for workouts.
