One person remains in critical condition following a car-pedestrian crash on Saturday evening that required that traffic be rerouted around a prominent intersection west of Mt. Pleasant for several hours.
Police, fire and rescue personnel were called to the intersection of Nottawa Road and M-20 at approximately 9 p.m. Saturday for the accident.
A Michigan State Police spokeswoman confirmed that the state police handled the accident but could release few details because it remains under investigation.
“I can confirm that there was a car vs. pedestrian crash and the pedestrian is in critical condition,” said Lt. Michelle Robinson in an email.
Witnesses reported that the injured person is a woman, but no one was able to provide Central Dispatch with a description of the vehicle involved, according to Central Dispatch records.
Onlookers also reported that traffic was rerouted around the intersection for approximately three hours Saturday night while law enforcement conducted an on-scene investigation.
Robinson said that detectives continue to investigate the crash and hope they can release additional details about what happened soon.
