If John “Zip” Connolly’s medical condition improves, the ex-FBI agent could be forced back into jail in Florida.
That’s according to a 17-point list of conditions the Florida Commission on Offender Review spelled out when the 80-year-old was set free in February.
As the Herald first reported Monday, Connolly is being allowed to relocate to Massachusetts. The disgraced G-man was granted a medical release in February.
Florida prison officials have said Connolly has multiple melanomas and diabetes and has about a year to live. Updates on his condition were not divulged.
Florida prison officials did tell the Herald Tuesday that under his conditions of release — that require him to be confined inside his home unless seeking medical help or attending Mass — that any change in his condition will trigger a new review.
The conditions state: “In the event there is an improvement in (his) medical condition to the extent that (he is) no longer ‘permanently incapacitated’ or ”terminally ill,’ (he) will, if directed to do so, report for a conditional medical release revocation hearing.”
Connolly’s local lawyer Peter Mullane has not returned messages left by the Herald.
Other conditions include:
- Reporting in each month “in writing.”
- Not possess alcohol or ” intoxicants of any kind.”
- No pot “unless prescribed by a physician.”
- No weapons.
- Allow visits by “a medical release officer.”
- Submit to “random testing” and “pay for urinalysis testing.”
- And, to have “absolutely no contact with the victim and the victim’s family.”
“Florida did a good job monitoring him, I just hope Massachusetts can stay on this. I don’t know,” said Mary Callahan, whose husband was killed by mobster James “Whitey” Bulger’s gang in a plot that put Connolly behind bars.
